Heather Leona
Instructor
Born and raised in Santa Fe, NM Heather Leona has always had a love for movement. They began studying Modern, Ballet, and Contemporary Fusion dance styles as a child. Broadening their studies in movement arts with other modalities like Yoga and Pilates helped not only to inform and cultivate a balanced dance practice, but also helped Heather recover from several injuries. Participating in her own recovery ignited a desire to build a career around learning about the body/mind connection, and sharing that knowledge with others.
After completing a Pilates mat certification in 2010 with Momentum Studio in Albuquerque, NM Heather began teaching movement full time. Relocating to Sacramento, CA in 2013 created opportunities to continue her research in dance and movement arts. Diving deeper into study they completed Balanced Body’s Reformer training with Tom McCook and a 200hr Vinyasa Yoga teacher training with The Yoga Seed Collective, which focused on trauma informed Yoga and making movement accessible to all bodies. During this time Heather was a student and teacher at Hot Pot Studio, a member of one of their professional companies, and became certified to teach Amy Sigil’s dance format Improv Team Sync. In 2017 Heather began teaching weekly classes and facilitating instructor trainings at Core Power Yoga. The following year they started teaching at Humani Pilates, where they completed Humani’s apprentice program and taught Mat, Reformer, Chair, and Cadillac, going on to help develop Humani’s teacher training program.
Currently you can find Heather in Rehoboth Beach, DE teaching weekly classes and private sessions at Right Balance Pilates, as well as helping facilitate Humani Moves virtual teacher training. When not immersed in Pilates, Heather runs a small art studio with her partner which is home to their jewelry and accessory company.
